Joylands is a family operated business which has been operating for the past 45 years as a full-service carnival company. It was founded in 1958 by George Melonas and is still operating by George and his family to this day.
In 1958 we were operating as Joylands with only a few amusement devices such as the Merry Go Round, Ferris Wheel and Jumping Castle.
In 1989 George and family purchased Better Amusement Hire and has since built up the company to now cater for a diverse range of events including shows, festivals, fetes, corporate events and Christmas parties.
Based and operated in Sydney we pride ourselves on our professionalism and dedication to each and every function, be it large or small.
We have one of the largest selections of mobile amusement devices in Australia. The company’s growth has not been sudden; it has been accomplished by steady solid planned expansion in a series of easy steps. With this measured growth the company management and staff have been able to easily progress in their training from simple kiddies rides to some of the most sophisticated amusement devices available today. Joylands prides itself on providing high quality family entertainment.
Joylands is affiliated with the Showmen’s Guild of Australasia, and is a foundation member of both Australian Amusement Leisure and Recreation Association Inc. (AALARA) and Australian Amusement Association (AAA).
We support a range of charities each year including The Lions Club, Care Flight, Ronald McDonald House, Apex Club, Rotary, Variety Club and Stewart House.
Joylands operates in conjunction with many other major amusement companies, therefore we can supply a large range of attractions upon demand !
Born into the industry Peter took over the complete management and day to day running in 1989 from his dad, George. Peter has his own wealth of experience operating his own amusements since he was 14.
Peter took Greg under his wing at the tender age of 14 and later married George’s granddaughter. Greg showed early potential in the operation of each individual ride and has worked his way up within the company and is now a Director and oversees all operational duties within the business along with performing regular maintenance. He also manages and travel to all Capital Shows and major festivals within Australia.
Willi married George’s daughter Vicki and together helped George run the business till 1989. He now oversees all ride maintenance and travels alongside Greg to all Capital Shows and major festivals within Australia.
Side Show Alley Games Manager
Cassie is Willi’s daughter and Greg’s wife. She has been working the games since she was a teenager and now manages all staff, stock and supervision of all games.
Senior Ride Supervisor / Site Supervisor
Greg has been with the Melonas family for over 30 years. He is the liaison person for clients at jobs and oversees all paperwork and logistics for the event along with supervision of rides and staff. Greg also is a hands on maintenance person and does our site inspections.
Senior Ride Supervisor / Logistics Supervisor
Russell has been with us part time for the past 20 years and has recently joined us full time to take on the ever growing logistics and staff allocation for events. He is also a senior site supervisor at events and carries out site inspections.
Jenene has 20 years within the amusement industry in a sales capacity and is usually your first point of contact. Jenene runs the hire side of the business dealing with all clients, quotations and bookings. She is also responsible for the marketing and office management.
Georgia handles the management of staff and coordinates our capital shows and major festivals
